How to restore hair without hair transplant surgery

non-surgical hair restoration

Hair transplant surgery is usually one of the last solutions some patients want do because for one, it’s surgery and two, they may not be ready for the downtime. At UFP Hair Restoration, we offer many effective non-surgical hair loss solutions from medications to micropigmentation and PRP + ACell hair therapy. We also specialize in hair transplant surgery so are able to provide a comprehensive plan with different options for each individual patient.

Medications

There are both prescription and over-the-counter medications that our physicians will recommend and can be used for appropriate patients with or without hair transplant surgery. Medication for hair loss can slow down the thinning process and increase coverage of the scalp.

The two most common medications include Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil). Propecia is a prescription medication and is significantly more effective than Rogaine for treating hair loss. When used together, over 90% of patients show significant reduction in the rate of hair loss.

Propecia is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat hair loss. It works to prevent hair loss by blocking the production of a male hormone in the scalp called androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone actually causes hair follicles to shrink in patients who are susceptible to hair loss and thinning.

Propecia allows the hair follicles to return to their healthy size, which then allows thicker, stronger hair to grow. However, this medication is something that would need to be taken over long periods of time because if stopped, further hair loss will continue within 3-8 months.

Rogaine is also FDA-approved for hair loss. This over-the-counter-medication helps slows the process of both male and female pattern baldness. Rogaine works by strengthening and thickening existing hair follicles. Rogaine typically does not cause regrowth of lost hair but does work well strengthening and thicken existing hair. This drug also requires long-term commitment and consistency.

Scalp Micro-pigmentation

Scalp micro-pigmentation is actually tattooing of the scalp that creates the appearance of fuller, thicker hair. Our tattoo artist expertly places micro dots with a tattoo gone that mimic hair follicles. This makes it so you can’t see the skin of the scalp through thinning hair which makes it appear fuller. This is a great inexpensive option for both men and women concerned with thin hair and can be done with or without additional procedures for hair restoration.

PRP with ACell

This treatment is an in-office procedure that is effective and requires very little to no downtime. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) not only preserves patient’s hair but also boosts hair follicles that are producing thinner more brittle hairs. Recently we started to add ACell to PRP injections, which has provided greater results for our patients. This combination is ideal for someone who isn’t quite yet bald but looking for fuller, thicker hair. Learn more HERE.
