Hair Restoration Options for Men and Women in SLC, Utah

Both men and women suffer from hair loss and/or thinning. Female pattern hair loss and male pattern baldness are medically referred to as androgenic alopecia. Both are considered the same condition but the pattern of hair loss is very different between the two genders.

Men who experience male pattern baldness tend to lose hair starting at the temple, vertex, and/or crown of the head. Women experience hair loss that spreads across the top of the scalp. With both genders, the back of the scalp is typically the least affected.

We are proud to offer a variety of surgical, non-surgical, oral and topical hair restoration options. We offer a wide variety of options because there are many different stages that an individual with hair loss may be experiencing. Here are some popular hair restoration options for men and women in SLC, Utah.

Oral and Topical Options

Finasteride, commonly known as Propecia, aides in reducing the rate of hair loss and in some cases, helps the hair to come back. Depending on each individual patient and their stage of hair loss, we are able to offer either oral or topical finasteride. Both are prescription medications that have been proven to be very effective for men, and some women, who are wanting to maintain the hair they have.

Rogaine or minoxidil are both over-the-counter topical medications for both men and women. Both of these medications have research in their favor showing they help to prevent hair loss and can even help people grow more hair.

We also carry products in our office that can thicken the hair and aid in hair loss: 82F, 82M and Nutrafol.

Surgical Options for Hair Loss

Follicular unit transplant (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) are both effective hair restoration procedures for men and women.

FUT, commonly referred to as the “strip method”, is popular among women or men who wear their hair longer because it does not require either gender to shave the back of their head. The donor grafts are removed as a strip, leaving the individual with a linear scar that is easily covered with longer hair.

FUE is ideal for individuals who wear their hair shorter because this hair transplant technique does not leave a linear scar and does not require half of the head to be shaved. Instead, you are left with tiny 1 millimeter punch marks on the back of the head. Grafts are obtained one by one in a checkered pattern with NeoGraft technology.
