When to Consider Neograft for Hair Loss

Most individuals considering Neograft are experiencing anywhere from mild to more advanced stages of hair loss. Hair loss affects mostly men but women can be affected as well. So when should you consider NeoGraft for hair loss?

Mild Hair Loss

Patients who are just starting to notice the the first signs of hair loss are generally better candidates for topical and/or oral treatments. They may want to consider Neograft a few years down the road once we are able to see where they are losing the most hair so they can benefit most from Neograft. That being said, NeoGraft is still an available option for such patients with sessions that will likely be much smaller in graft amount.

Moderate to Severe Hair Loss

Those experiencing moderate to severe hair loss are clearly excellent candidates for Neograft. These candidates have noticeable thinning and balding with a receding hairline. Neograft naturally restores the patient’s hairline and provides overall density, typically in just one session, although more than one session can be done if desired.

What to expect with Neograft

Neograft is the only follicular unit harvesting and implantation system that is cleared by the FDA. Neograft has a high success rate (95-98%) and lasts a lifetime. This hair restoration surgery is done in our office under local anesthesia and takes approximately 6-8 hours depending on how many grafts are being transplanted.

The donor grafts that are transplanted to the thinning or balding areas are extracted from the dense area on the back of the individual’s head, where the follicles are not prone to hair loss. They are extracted one by one in a checkered pattern leaving no visible scarring on the back of the head. Once the grafts have been cleaned and counted, they are transplanted to the desired area(s) of the scalp in a natural pattern. Patients experience a few days of modest discomfort and swelling and are able to fully resume normal activities within just one week of surgery.

When considering Neograft, we also inform our patients about the importance of either oral or topical finasteride and/or Rogaine or monoxide. These oral and topical treatments will help patients both before and after hair restoration surgery maintain the hair and promote continued hair growth.
