Hair loss is a condition that affects both men and women and can negatively affect self-confidence. At Utah Facial Plastics our experienced surgeons are able to offer their patients a variety of hair restoration options that will improve the appearance of their hair loss.
Experienced Surgeons
Both Dr. Thompson and Dr. Henstrom are double board-certified facial plastic surgeons who are experienced in the many methods of hair restoration. Our surgeons work exclusively on the face (from the neck up) and have a creative eye which helps with the aesthetic process that goes into surgery.
Variety of Hair Restoration Options
Hair restoration options can range from treatments that are non-invasive to more invasive surgical procedures. Depending on each individual’s stage of hair loss will determine which treatment is right for them. During your hair restoration consultation, our surgeons assess the hair, hair loss patterns and health history to determine the patient’s best options.
Medication
In many cases, either over-the-counter and/or prescription medications are a great place for patients to start. Over-the-counter medications can include Rogaine, vitamins and shampoos. Propecia is an oral or topical prescription medication that will help patients hang onto the hair they have while helping regrow lost hair at the same time. Our surgeons will oftentimes recommend a combination of medication and hair transplant surgery if hair loss is far enough along.
Hair Transplant Surgery
Hair transplant surgery involves using the patient’s own hair to restore thick, healthy hair to balding and thinning areas and can recreate your natural hairlines with natural, long lasting results. According to RealSelf.com, hair transplant surgery has a 93% “Worth It Rating” for 2020.
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT or strip method): This method of hair transplant surgery is a time-tested technique for permanent hair restoration. FUT involves removing a strip of hair from the back of the scalp, this area is most resistant to balding. The hair follicles are then harvested and implanted to the thinning or bald areas of the head.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): The FUE method is a sun-type of FUT. Follicular units are also extracted and transplanted to thinning and bald areas of the head. However, the real difference between the two is the way the grafts are obtained. FUE follicular units are extracted one by one without the need to excise a strip of hair from the back of the scalp.
Dr. Thompson and Dr. Henstrom both have extensive experience with many hair restoration techniques along with medical expertise and attention to detail, helping them deliver the best, most natural results.
