FUT Strip Method Hair Transplant Heber City, UT

Natural, Permanent Results with the FUT/Strip Method in Heber

If you’re considering hair restoration in Heber City, UT, the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) strip method remains one of the most reliable and time-tested options. This advanced surgical technique allows for the precise harvesting of high-quality grafts, giving patients a fuller, denser, and more natural-looking hairline. For individuals seeking maximum coverage in a single session, FUT continues to be a trusted path toward long-term confidence.

Follicular Unit Transplant surgery (FUT or strip method) is a time-tested hair transplant technique for permanent hair restoration. Drs. Thompson, Henstrom and Manning board-certified facial plastic surgeons, use your own hair to restore thick, healthy hair to balding areas and can recreate your natural hairlines with the most natural results.

At our hair restoration clinic, we specialize in Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), also known as the Strip Method—an advanced and time-tested technique for achieving natural, permanent hair growth. During this procedure, a small strip of scalp is carefully removed from the donor area at the back of the head, where hair is most resistant to thinning. Each follicular unit is then meticulously dissected under a microscope and prepared for transplantation, ensuring optimal graft survival and natural-looking results that restore confidence and fullness.

Why Choose FUT for Your Hair Restoration

The FUT strip method is ideal for patients who value efficiency and standout results. By removing a narrow strip of tissue from the donor area, your surgeon can extract thousands of healthy follicles at once—making FUT especially beneficial for those experiencing moderate to advanced hair loss. The result is a high graft yield, exceptional follicle viability, and seamless blending with your existing hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Follicular Unit Transplantation is done in our surgical room at UFP Hair Restoration under local anesthesia. Patients are awake but are given medication to help them relax and feel comfortable during the procedure. First, the surgeon cleans off the scalp. Then he injects an anesthetic to the place where the strip of scalp is going to be removed. The strip of scalp is taken and set aside, and then the scalp is closed in a way that will result in minimum scarring.

Next, the follicular units are carefully dissected under a microscope so they are not broken or damaged. It is critical for maximum hair growth that the whole follicular unit is kept intact during this process. After the grafts are prepared, the surgeon cleans and numbs the area of placement, creates tiny holes (recipient sites) with a scalpel, and delicately places each graft into each recipient site.

Drs. Thompson, Henstrom, and Manning arrange and position these follicular unit grafts in an aesthetically pleasing, natural fashion. The pattern and protocol for which this is done is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the patients’ history of hair loss and the likelihood of future hair loss. The follicular unit transplants mimic the way the hair grows naturally, so when transplanted by an experienced professional, the result is completely natural and the transplanted area is indistinguishable from one’s original hair.

For years it was thought that each hair grew as an individual strand but we know today that scalp hair actually grows in tiny groups of 1-4 hairs each. These grouping of hair are called “follicular units” and by using these units for hair restoration in Utah, the result is much more natural looking that previous methods of hair transplantation.

Advantages:

  • Completely natural results
  • Shorter procedure time compared to certain methods of FUE
  • Healthy tissue to maximize follicular unit growth
  • Typically less expensive than FUE

Disadvantages:

  • Horizontal scar at donor area (typically can be covered by hair)
  • Requires more healing time for donor site
  • Not suitable for patients with “tight” scalps or those at risk of significant scarring
  • Not suitable for patients who prefer very short hair

An ideal candidate for the strip method includes men or women with hair loss concerns who are able to cover the appearance of a fine linear scar on the back of the head with their hair post surgery. The strip method, FUT (follicular unit transplant), is typically lower in cost than FUE and therefore may be more appealing to many patients. It’s best to meet with one of our hair restoration physicians to determine if this method is appropriate for you.

Because every patient has a different set of goals and needs varying amounts of grafts for fullness, UFP Hair Restoration does not provide set costs for surgery without an evaluation. A full detailed quote is given during a consultation or through our Virtual Consultation page.

Following follicular unit transplantation, patients typically resume normal activities the next day with minimal restrictions. The donor area where the strip was removed will require about one week of care.

It is not uncommon for the hair to fall out with the new hair growth beginning around 4-5 months following surgery. You can expect fully mature hair growth in approximately one year from your procedure date, though it does vary with each patient.

The follicular unit transplantation method has been the standard in hair restoration since the early 1990’s. It continues to be a popular method for hair restoration throughout the world. In recent years, Follicular unit extraction (FUE) has become increasingly popular due to advancements in technology, such as Neograft. Drs. Thompson, Henstrom, and Manning have extensive experience with both techniques and will help you determine which method is best suited for you and your specific goals.
