The strip-method, or FUT (follicular unit transplantation), is a hair transplant surgery technique in which a strip of scalp is excised from the back of the head to obtain grafts for transplantation to bald or thinning areas of the head. The grafts are cleaned and prepared one by one under a microscope prior to inserting into recipient sites on the top of the head. This procedure has been used for a number of years and works well for hair restoration. So who is an ideal candidate for the strip method?
An ideal candidate for the strip method includes men or women with hair loss concerns who are able to cover the appearance of a fine linear scar on the back of the head with their hair after surgery is complete. The other option for hair transplant surgery is with FUE, or follicular unit extraction. During an FUE procedure, grafts are taken one by one from the back of the head so there is no linear scar left that needs to be covered up. This is often the preferred technique by many patients but is higher in cost as it does take longer to perform and involves our advanced NeoGraft technology. And since the strip method works as well as FUE, many patients opt for this route to save on cost.
