Two Step NeoGraft Process:
As mentioned above, the NeoGraft device works in two steps; extracting (harvesting) and implantation (placement).
Prior to harvesting the hair follicles, the donor area (typically on the back of the scalp) is numbed with local anesthetic. Once the patient is numb, the harvesting process will begin. During this time the follicular unit, which usually contains 1-4 hairs, is carefully extracted with the vacuum-like suction. This part of the process can take anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on how many grafts are needed.
Once the harvesting process is complete, the placement process begins. The donor grafts are typically placed at the crown, thinning areas, and/or along the hairline. The recipient sites are also numbed with local anesthetic, making the entire process very tolerable. The placement process can take another 2 hours or more depending on the number of grafts being placed.
NeoGraft can be a lengthy procedure and if a patient requires more than 3000 grafts we may recommend scheduling two different procedure dates.
Fast Recovery
There are no incisions, which makes for a faster recovery. Following surgery, pinpoint bleeding is to be expected. With proper care, the back of the scalp will heal within 3-5 days. We recommend that patients refrain from strenuous activity for at least 10 days.
Long-Term Results
New hair growth begins 3-4 months after the shedding process. Fully mature hair growth can be expected 12-15Â months following surgery.
The hair follicles that are placed will continue to grow for the rest of your life because the area where the hair follicles were extracted are generally safe from hair loss.
