The Cost of Hair Transplant Surgery at Utah Facial Plastics

Hair transplant surgery can make a big difference on one’s self-confidence and outlook on life. Here at UFP Hair Restoration, we pride ourselves on offering many solutions for hair loss so we can customize different plans for each patient depending where you are in the stages of hair loss. Medication may be prescribed to help stabilize loss and provide a more successful outcome with hair injection therapy or hair transplant surgery. Cost is a big factor in deciding whether or not to have any surgical procedure, but it is important that you find a reputable doctor and facility to provide such a life changing and rewarding decision.

The pricing does vary for both FUT (follicular unit transplantation) and FUE (follicular unit extraction) depending on the amount of grafts that are transplanted. FUT involves removing a strip of hair from the back of the head to obtain the grafts from. They are then prepared and transplanted to the bald and thinning areas of the head or face as needed. FUE involves removing grafts one-by-one from the back of the head using NeoGraft technology. The grafts are suctioned out one by one in a checkered pattern and then transplanted to the needed areas.

FUT and FUE Hair Transplant Pricing

The cost of a hair procedure greatly depends on the amount the grafts needed to accomplish the goals of the patient and surgeon.  At UFP Hair Restoration, we currently charge an amount per graft. We also discount some of the grafts on larger procedures. In 2023, we charge $6 per graft in an FUE procedure and $5 per graft in an FUT procedure. Surgery prices can always change with time and we are currently average and fair with what the market prices area.

On average, most patients need anywhere from 1,000 grafts to 3,000 grafts per session. It truly depends on the amount of loss and the areas that are needed to fill in. If the desire is to fill in a receding hairline and some of the upper scalp you can look at anywhere from 1000-2000 grafts. If the hair loss is more extensive  and into the crown area, you can expect 2000-3000 grafts. We generally don’t do more than 3000 grafts per session. The reason for that is the procedure itself takes most of the day and time is limited. Also, it’s to help prevent “shock loss” or permanent loss. This is where the hairs surrounding the donor hairs experience some trauma from the procedure and can fall out. The loss is usually temporary but there is a risk of it being permanent. If you feel that you need more coverage following your first procedure, it is always an option to have a second session if your surgeon sees that it is a good idea.

Hair Transplant Cost in The United States

Hair transplant costs vary state to state, and city to city. Hair transplants are considered cosmetic procedures and are not covered by health insurance providers. Some doctors may quote per graft and some may quote the procedure as a whole. On average, a hair transplant procedure usually costs anywhere from $6,000-$15,000.

Some individuals travel outside of the country to have these procedures done, but it is important t to consider factors such as credentials, safety, flight and hotel costs and the required amount of time some places will ask you to stay before you return home. The saying “you get what you pay for” has remained tried and true in many circumstances in life. Cutting corners when it comes to surgery is not something to toy with. If there are complications you could spend more money trying to fix the problem or even worse, have problems with your health.

UFP Hair Restoration’s double board-certified facial plastics and hair restoration specialists are experienced and trained to the highest of standards. When it comes to cost, many people pay for their procedures on their own or save up when they receive their quote at their consultation.  We do not offer in-house financing, but we understand some patients need help to pay for their procedure. We provide options with CareCredit and KeyBank financing. You can learn more and sign up for any option on our financing page.

It’s important to come in for a consultation to learn more about all hair restoration options and to determine how many grafts would be best for you.
